How does WiFi for yachts work?
These systems consist of satellite dishes installed on the yacht's deck that communicate with satellites orbiting the Earth, allowing data to be transmitted to and from the yacht regardless of its location on the open sea.
Yacht owners subscribe to data plans of satellite internet service providers, who in turn maintain networks of satellites and ground stations to deliver internet access to your vessels.
Then, you install networking equipment such as routers, modems, and access points to manage the internet connection and distribute it throughout the vessel. The satellite signal received by the antenna is transmitted to the onboard router or modem, which then distributes the internet connection via WiFi to connected devices.
In addition to satellite internet, some yachts may also use cellular networks being near the coastal areas or marinas. These alternative connectivity solutions can supplement satellite internet and provide additional bandwidth or coverage.
